Ruth Mastenbroek is a fairly new perfume brand, and Amorosa was released in 2012. It is an aquatic floral. Amorosa means ‘In a loving manner’ in Spanish. Ruth writes on her website that her perfume creating is a form of art.

“Scent is my life. This fragrance is the signature of my art. It is my signature”- Ruth Mastenbroek.

The box has a late 1970s vibe, a bold sky blue and chocolate brown swirling leaves pattern. The bottle is tapered towards the top with a clear square lid.

AMOROSA RUTH MASTENBROEK PERFUME REVIEWOpening notes: Watermelon, galbanum and violet leaf.

Middle notes: Tiare, tuberose, jasmine, and ylang-ylang.

Base notes: Amber, vetiver and patchouli.

This is unusual, almost eccentric, but full of  wonderful rare notes that give a hint of magic to the blend. The violet leaf is gloriously buoyant, remaining as the lead accord, and sending my senses into a heady spin of aromatic bliss. The drydown is powdery and sharp, powdery from the white florals and sharp from the vetiver, so it is a jarring effect that nevertheless is somehow still  moreish. A unique creation.

Occasions: This rare scent can be worn anytime you feel.

Seasons: Late summer and early autumn.

Rating: Silver medal.

Price: Expensive.
